Conclusion
The function of a Split Core is to regulate the magnetic field strength in a core.
You maintain the voltage but you decrease the current delivered to the secondary.
Under no load the voltage will increase when the gap is closed. Various metals and
magnets used as material to close the gap has an influence on the performance or
power delivery to the load. The Metglas has because of its very high magnetic field
absorbtion quality a superior performance. It is however only an example of the properties
and not to be understood as replacement for a ferrite Split C-Core. The real use of the
Metglas comes into play when very high power with very littles losses are required. From a financial point of view it would not make much sense to use it in an LED driver,
unless the load is very high so that the cost of this core can be justified. We move on in
our next video with a set of Metglas C-Cores combined with unusual winding technics
from many primaries to many secondary’s.
